Your library stays on your Mac.

Neginato is built to stay out of your way and off the network. It collects no analytics and sends no diagnostics, telemetry, crash reports, or usage data — not from any feature, and not in the background. There is no “phone home.”

In short: unless you play a radio station or turn on the optional AI Curation feature, Neginato makes no network requests, and your library never leaves your Mac.

What stays on your Mac

  • Your music files are read only. Neginato never writes to, renames, moves, or deletes them. It runs in the macOS App Sandbox with read-only access to the single folder you pick.
  • Your library index, artwork, waveforms, playlists, and settings live in a local database on your Mac.
  • No account, no sign-in, no cloud sync.

When the network is used

There are exactly two cases, and both are things you start:

  • Internet Radio. When you play a station, Neginato connects to that station's stream. The stations you add or browse are your choice.
  • AI Curation (opt-in, off by default). Nothing is sent unless you enable the feature and save your own Google Gemini API key.

How AI Curation handles your data

AI Curation is an optional helper that builds playlists and an “AI Radio” from tracks already in your library. When it's on:

  • Only plain-text titles, artists, and albums of candidate tracks are sent to Google Gemini so it can pick songs — never your audio files or artwork.
  • Your API key is stored only in the macOS Keychain. It does not sync to iCloud and is never written to preferences or logs.
  • You can turn the feature off at any time; with it off, nothing about your library leaves your Mac.
  • For completeness: while the feature is on, the app makes one small check to Google Gemini at launch to see which models your key can use. That check carries no track data and no usage data — just the request for the model list.
A note on Google's free tier. On Gemini's free tier, Google may use requests to improve its products (per the Gemini API terms); paid usage is not. That is Google's policy — surfaced here so you can decide before turning the feature on.
